The Start of Cleveland Steel:

Cleveland Steel Container Corporation is founded in 1963 by current Chairman & CEO Mr. Christopher I. Page and Mr. Edward F. Crawford

1963 | The Pail Line

The Pail Line Begins:

The first pail line is built and installed by Mr. Page himself in the original Cleveland factory.

1969 | Globe Steel

1969 | Globe Steel

Globe Steel Barrel is Purchased:

Globe Steel Barrel, a local Cleveland company, is purchased in order to enter the steel drum business. All steel pail operations are moved to the larger Cleveland plant.

1970 | Quakertown

Quakertown Begins:

The steel pail plant in Quakertown, Pennsylvania opens for production. It is still running over 50 years later.

1973 | Republic

Republic Steel Pail Business is Absorbed:

Purchased the Republic Steel Container Division located in Niles, Ohio.

1975 | Niles

1975 | Niles

Niles Expansion:

The primary steel pail plant in Cleveland is closed and moved to Niles. Additionally, the Niles drum line is sold to focus on steel pail production instead.

1987 | North Pak

North Pak Created:

An era of maturity and stability within the steel pail industry is seen, particularly at Quakertown. North Pak is launched to great success. It eventually rebrands to Pipeline Packaging in 2012.

1992 | Streetsboro

1992 | Streetsboro

The Technical Center Opens:

Streetsboro, Ohio welcomes the completion of the Cleveland Steel Container Corporations Technical Center. The facility features room for future manufacturing operations and pail innovations.

1993 | Peotone

Cleveland Steel Expands Once Again:

Peotone, Illinois becomes home to a brand new pail line built and installed within the first year. 2019 saw the same plant receive a major remodel with the installation of a much improved and cleaner pail assembly process.

Metal Stamping in Streetsboro Starts:

The metal stamping plant in Streetsboro, Ohio begins production.

Expansions Continue:

The acquisition of Carando Machine Works’ steel pail division is completed. It further expands the customer base covered by Cleveland Steel Container.

West Coast Pail Growth:

Norton Packaging’s steel pail business in Oakland, California is acquired. The acquisition drastically expands the company’s West Coast offerings.

2008 | Southline

Southline Joins Cleveland Steel Container:

Cleveland Steel Container completes its acquisition of Southline Metal Products steel pail division.

2008 | Greif

2008 | Greif

Cleveland Steel Continues its Expansion:

Cleveland Steel Container completes the acquisition of Greif’s steel pail division. This further expands the company’s customer portfolio.

2009 | Kilgore

Steel Pails in the Lone Star State:

Cleveland Steel Container opens its’ Kilgore, Texas plant in December of that year.

A Steel Pail Design Breakthrough:

Triplex® is implemented at all Cleveland Steel pail plants. The innovative steel pail design drastically improves product performance and safety — saving customers valuable time and money.

Customer Award from Sherwin Williams:

Sherwin Williams awards Cleveland Steel Container with the “CERTIFIED SUPPLIER AWARD” for “Excellent Supplier Performance.” from 2011 until the awards retirement in 2016.

New Equipment Digest presents Cleveland Steel Container with the KING AWARD FOR INDUSTRY’S “BEST NEW PRODUCT OF THE YEAR WINNER” for the Triplex Steel Pail.

A Major Company Milestone:

Cleveland Steel Container Celebrates 50 Years in Business. Chris Page remains on as chairman and unveils the company’s plan for long-term growth and sustainability.

The installation of the Electron Beam Coating Line provides Cleveland Steel with unmatched steel coating capabilities.

PPG recognizes Cleveland Steel Container for its “Overall Excellence and Quality of Service” as a long-term supplier.

Employee Stock Ownership Begins:

After 50 plus years of ownership by Christopher I. Page, Page creates an ESOP (Employee Stock Ownership Plan) Company. This guarantees that Cleveland Steel Containers will never be sold or “flipped” to another entity. Learn more about what CSC’s ESOP means to you, our customer.

A New Digital Look is Unveiled:

2015 sees Cleveland Steel update the entire look and function of the cscpails.com website since it originally launched in 2001.

CSC Begins Using Salesforce and Pardot:

Cleveland Steel begins using Salesforce in order to better record its customer’s needs as well as improving communication with them through Pardot.

US Coexcell is Acquired by Cleveland Steel Container:

Cleveland Steel Container acquires US Coexcell, keeping them as a separate entity but gaining their in-depth knowledge of plastics and blow-molding.

Customer Service Training in Cleveland:

In order to best serve the needs of its growing customer base, the customer service team is taken on a full day training trip in Cleveland.

New Roll Coat Oven Installed in Kilgore:

A brand new roll coat oven is installed at the Kilgore, Texas plant. This allows for even better pail coatings to be applied.

The Peotone Plant Gets Remodeled:

The Peotone facility receives a major remodel, allowing for increased pail production through the installation of an improved manufacturing process.

A Completely Redesigned Website:

Cleveland Steel Container delivers an all new website to its customers, allowing easier access to important documentation and discovering pail features.

Cleveland Steel Container and Pipeline Packaging move into their new shared office building in Hudson, Ohio.

Upgraded Ring Seal Cover

By slightly adjusting the channel where the cover sits on the curl of the pail, our covers now fit easier and seal better when placed on a steel pail.

All CSC pallet trays are switched to angled corners, which are much more durable and don’t get bent nearly as quickly as before.
